Abstract

Background: Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (OMSK) often requires radical mastoidectomy as a definitive treatment due to the risk of serious complications. Patients undergoing surgery commonly experience pain and anxiety, thus requiring appropriate pain management using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. One of the non-pharmacological approaches is finger relaxation therapy.Method: This study employed a case study design involving one preoperative radical mastoidectomy patient with a pain score of 8. The finger relaxation therapy intervention was applied during the perioperative phase, accompanied by breathing relaxation education and guided independent practice. Results: After the intervention, the patient was able to independently perform the finger relaxation technique and experienced a reduction in pain intensity from a score of 8 to 7, along with decreased anxiety symptoms such as restlessness and tension. Conclusion: Finger relaxation therapy is proven to help reduce pain levels and promote calmness in patients undergoing preoperative radical mastoidectomy. This technique is simple, safe, and suitable as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention in perioperative pain management.
