PLAGIARISM SCREENING
Policy and Procedures
Brader Journal of Nursing and Midwifery (BJNM) is strongly committed to ensuring the originality and academic integrity of all published manuscripts. All submitted manuscripts will undergo a rigorous plagiarism screening process before proceeding to the peer review stage.
Plagiarism Screening Tool
BJNM uses Turnitin software to detect text similarity in manuscripts. The permitted similarity index is maximum 20%, with the following provisions:
- Similarity for each single source should not exceed 3%
- Direct quotations must be properly cited using quotation marks and references
- Text similarity in methodology sections should be minimal
Similarity Levels and Actions
- Similarity 0-20%:
- Manuscript can proceed to peer review stage
- Editors may request authors to revise sections with high similarity
- Similarity 21-30%:
- Manuscript is returned to authors for revision
- Authors must explain and revise sections with high similarity
- Manuscript must be rechecked after revision
- Similarity above 30%:
- Manuscript is automatically rejected
- Authors may appeal with written explanation
- Final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief
Types of Plagiarism Not Tolerated
BJNM does not tolerate the following forms of plagiarism:
- Direct plagiarism without attribution
- Self-plagiarism without disclosure
- Mosaic plagiarism (piecing together phrases from various sources)
- Idea or concept plagiarism
- Translation plagiarism
Plagiarism Handling Procedures
If plagiarism is detected after publication:
- Article will be temporarily retracted from the journal website
- Authors will be given opportunity to provide explanation
- Editorial board will investigate the case
- Based on findings, article may be:
- Republished with correction
- Retracted with official notice
- Reported to authors' institution
Plagiarism Prevention
Authors are expected to:
- Cite all sources properly using APA 7th edition style
- Use plagiarism checking software independently before submission
- Obtain permission for reproduced materials
- Fully disclose use of previous works
Sanctions
Violations of plagiarism policy may result in:
- Manuscript rejection
- Three-year ban on manuscript submission
- Notification to authors' institution
- Retraction of published articles
We encourage all authors to understand and comply with this policy to maintain the credibility of scientific publications in nursing and midwifery fields.
