Background: Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) is one of the most common diseases in children, characterized by diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and abdominal pain that may lead to dehydration. Pain experienced by pediatric patients often causes anxiety and discomfort; therefore, effective non-pharmacological nursing interventions are needed. Audiovisual distraction is one of the techniques used to divert the patient’s attention from pain to pleasant stimuli such as sound and moving images.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of audiovisual distraction techniques in reducing pain levels among children with AGE in the Emergency Room of Dr. Tadjuddin Chalid Hospital, Makassar.
Method: This case study applied the nursing process approach, including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subject was a 10-year-old child diagnosed with AGE who experienced fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. The audiovisual distraction intervention was given three times daily for 10–15 minutes using cartoon videos. The findings showed a reduction in pain scale from 6/10 before intervention to 2/10 after intervention, accompanied by decreased grimacing, increased comfort, and improved cooperation during care
